Angelica & Mark

Angelica and Mark are both old friends of mine from different chapters of my childhood, so when I heard about their engagement I was so shocked and happy for them! I didn't even know they knew each other, much less that they were in LOVE- what a small world, amirite?!

Of course at that time nobody knew what a crazy year 2020 would turn out to be. In March when event restrictions became commonplace, we all thought things would be back to normal in a matter of weeks... Then months went by and we realized we were in for the long haul. Angelica and Mark were intent to keep their spring wedding date and opted for a backyard wedding with just their families in attendance. Fortunately for them, Mark's family has a gorgeous, spacious backyard that even backs up to a picturesque park!

The day of their intimate wedding, rain clouds rolled in thick and a few downpours made an appearance throughout the morning. The weather radar showed that at the exact time they intended to start their outdoor ceremony there would be a break in the storms, so wedding prep continued as planned and the families hoped for the best. The joy among each family was palpable and you could tell that nobody was going to let this union be dampened, rain or otherwise.

It drizzled throughout my entire drive to the house, but sure enough as soon as it was go-time, the rain stopped AND THE SUN CAME THROUGH, creating the most beautiful springtime glow on the wet grass and leaves. The already beautiful backyard turned into a lush green garden complete with a stunning altar and decor made by Angelica's parents. Everyone gathered together under the peeking sunshine for Angelica and Mark to exchange their vows, then I snuck away with the couple to take portraits in the park behind the house. The clouds came back creating a romantic, moody scene for photos which, paired alongside the springy green ceremony photos, perfectly depict the sporadic weather from their day.

The families continued the celebration with a socially distanced picnic reception and cake. Despite the circumstances thrown at Angelica and Mark, they ended the afternoon as husband and wife, surrounded by their parents, siblings, neices, and nephews, which was more than enough to make them happy. It was such a beautiful day that I was honored to capture for these childhood friends of mine.
